Watching Discovery Health...
Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at 07:56PM ...and one of those baby shows, my 20-year old not pregnant daughter turned to me and said, "You will catch my baby."
A statement.
Clear.
Almost matter-of-fact.
I had to stifle a sob and calmly told her I would be there and guide her lover if s/he needed me, too... yes, I would be honored to be her midwife.
My spirit soars!

I watched those shows when I was home on maternity leave - all the time. My husband would laugh at me because I would just yell at the TV "get up and move around!" or "She doesn't need a c-section!". They make me so angry. Normal birth isn't good TV, so they only show sensational ones.
So the rest of the world thinks that's what's normal.
I get so mad.
And that would be a large part of why I plan on having babies till I have a daughter. How lovely! :)
Holly: I don't know why I watch the shows either... well, I sort of do. I am not pregnant and I learn from the more medical ones on Discovery Health. I used to watch "Baby Story," but it drives me crazy, so I just watch the really high techie ones.
My absolute favorite is when they have the "Live" weekend they do on Labor Days (and one other weekend a year)... I love that it shows birth in real time - and sadly shows women being wheeled into the operating room over and over and over again.
But, I do yell at the tv a lot. My family usually leaves the room when they are on.
Louisa: Eek! How many kids are you willing to have to get a girl?!
SO GREAT.
I am not sure if I should be the Grandma at my son's baby's births or the doula, too (or instead.)
Years ago one said, "You'll be there right?" My reply was that he needed to have a wife who wanted me there, too, but that I'd love to be! :)
Hh
My aunt will catch my babies at home in our loungeroom. I hope it's not too far away . . .
