Come take a trip with me as I traverse the surgery road.
The break is right where the arrow is pointing. (I can't figure out how to make the arrows black, sorry.)
Another viewpoint of the broken 5th metatarsal.
My unfinished tattooed leg with the doc's initials on my foot. It is his ritual so he knows where he is doing surgery. I told him I already drew on the leg for him. He laughed.
The IV - in my hand! not my usual requested antecubital spot. Thankfully, the hurried nurse slowed down enough to make sure the IV was placed correctly the first time.
Immediately post-op (well, as immediately as they would let Sarah near me).
Sarah thought I was looking all cute and loopy.
They made me eat crackers before they would give me any more pain meds. We left the hospital very shortly after this was taken. That's my Sarah kissing me. (Donna is taking the picture.)
Wasn't that fun?
If I could have gotten pics of the actual surgery, I would have, but the doc said it would be minimally gory so wasn't really worth it. See the last entry to see the inside screw that was placed.
I am off my feet as much as possible for at least 2 weeks from surgery. I go Christmas Eve to get the staples out. Then supposed to remain off my feet another 2 weeks before being able to put pressure on my foot... for another 4 weeks. That's the plan at the moment.
Sarah got me a Rollator to aid in my independence around the house. It has helped loads so I can be left alone and can carry things from one room to another. I'm an old lady shopping now!
I'll be going to my first birth with the foot today or tonight... so we'll see how that goes. I'll be the sedentary midwife. (I have my apprentice and another LM to oversee everyone because I am still unable to move well.)
I'll let you know how it goes!
