To Give the "Teta" is to Give Life

Dar La TeTA es dar ViDA

(To Give Ninny/Boob/Tit/Side/Pecho/Na Na/etc. Is to Give Life!) is a wonderful video on You Tube.

The video, in black and white, shows babies, toddlers and children nursing with a bouncy song in Spanish playing along.

Thanks to midwife Dagmar for the complete translation!

Sleep, sleep, little black one,
because your mother is in the field, little black one,
sleep, sleep, my life,
because your mother is in the field, my life.

She's going to bring you quails for you
She's going to bring delicious fruits for you
She's going to bring pork for you
She's going to bring many things for you

And if the little black one doesn't sleep
the white devil comes and zas!
eats his little leg - chicapumba!

Sleep, sleep, little black one,
because your mother is in the field, little black one

ENJOY the video! It's a gem... and your nurslings will make you watch it a thousand times - I just bet!

okay, my Spanish is far from perfect, here's the jist of it....

Sleep, sleep, little brown baby
while your breasts are in the field ~looking for~ (?) quails and rich fruits for you, bringing you many things
and if the little brown baby does not sleep, the white devil comes and eats the ~patita~ (?)

chacapo, chacapo etc (?)

while your mama is in the fields, working, working, working all day long, sleep, little brown baby, while your mama is in the fields

That was beautiful, thank you!

And yes, my nursling - and the one who was weaned a year and a half ago - both wanted to watch it over and over again.

Just like being robbed of great births, women are robbed of great nursing relationships. I didn't know ANYTHING when my first was born. I nursed him and planned to "until he cuts his first tooth." Well, that bugger went until 10 months. My FIL worked for Abbott labs, gave us boxes and boxes of formula. We did use some, but ended up giving most of it away. Each baby nursed longer, and my 5th nursed until she turned two. I was already pregnant, and she began spitting out the milk. I guess pregnancy made it taste weird? Anyway, I am now nursing my 6th and she is 5 months old. I plan to nurse a long time. I think I used formula once or twice with baby 4, but only one pumped bottle with baby 5...nursing only for her. This baby has had one pumped bottle also. That's it so far. No formula. Period. Wish I knew more with my babies. I come from a family of nurses, and most of the questions I get around 6 months deal with when I'm going to wean. Now I know more. I nursed in line at Walmart today, she was hungry, and I had what she needed. The lady at the check out counter had the "good for you" attitude. I've come a long way. My daughters will hopefully do better than I did. They will know birth is normal (and most of the time quite safe) and nursing is best when baby is getting needs met, and that's most of the time. In fact, when my 2 year old plays with her babies, she nurses...so does my 5 year old.

Blessings!
Dawn (the long winded one)
