Phenomenal Breastfeeding Story

Thanks to Barb in New Orleans, we get to see this CNN Story.

Breastfeeding Hero tells the story of a policewoman who instinctively nursed as many babies as she could after the earthquake in China May 12.

How wonderful that now she is a national hero!

She is mine, too.

This is thoroughly amazing and touching, on so many levels. China is such a fascinating society!!! How awesome is it that she is considered a national hero for the act of wet nursing infant disaster victims! And she's really, really cool for saying it's no big deal, any nursing mother would have done the same. She'll make a fantastic role model. I hope they'll teach her in school. And not just in China.

And a note about the press coverage, Chinese and Western. Did you notice that the only time she is actually shown breastfeeding is when the camera pans to the front page of a Chinese paper featuring a photograph of her, her chest uncovered? The cynic in me wonders if (given the opportunity) CNN would have included actual footage of her breastfeeding.

Wonderful, amazing, and she says "natural." Just look at those healthy babies she kept alive...and full!
