LLL Founder Gone

La Leche League has had such a positive influence in my life. I changed my parenting style because of the books I was loaned through LLL. I found life-long friends through League. My partner and I met at a LLL meeting and my apprentice and I also met at a LLL meeting.

The Founding Mothers, in 1956, had no idea what they were doing when they gathered together to support each other as they struggled to breastfeed in a world that idolized bottles. But, their meeting has forever changed the breastfeeding terrain.

Edwina Froehlich died at 93 on Sunday, June 8, 2008.

Only 6 Founding Mothers remain.

Join and support LLL when and where you can.

LLL was the beginning of my "voice".
I've spent a great deal of time thinking about them (LLL) the past few days so its interesting that I should come here and see this post.

My oldest is 21 today and that birth left some of the worst birth scars....deep trenches filled with hurt and dissillusionment and dirty muck....

But through my interaction and involvement with LLL and the people that I met....those trenches were filled with fertile soil that allowed me to grow beyond those trenches and turn that into a garden bed of learning and transformation and then came beautiful blooms.

Those blooms were not only in my births of the children yet to come but in the next 89 births that I attended during the coming years as a doula.

Those are some wonderful memories that I'll take to my grave with me. Thanks for giving me a way to wrap that up and smile with contentment.
