I'm a New Grandma!!
Friday, September 2, 2011 at 07:19AM Yesterday, September 1, 2011 at 12:13pm, my daughter Meghann gave birth to her beautiful daughter Gabriella Grace. Dad Brian is over the moon; mom's tired as all get out after a 32-hour labor that ended in the cesarean birth of a 9 pound 10 ounce angel... story another day.
I was overwhelmed with joy at meeting my first grandchild.
One advantage of having a former La Leche League leader, midwife, doula for a mama is being able to get a baby nursing even when mom's napping/groggy after the birth.
Look at this child! Is she not the most beautiful new baby you've EVER seen?!? (Your own children notwithstanding, of course. laughing)
No grandma could be prouder of her child. Meghann and Brian were so amazing, so beautiful during labor. It was an enormous honor to be invited into their sacred space. An experience that zoomed to the top of one of my best days on this earth.

Mazal tov, Grandma! 6 months ago I had the same experience [including C/S] with my daughter, and there really isn't anything comparable to it.

I am NOT one of those people who thinks all babies are cute......but Miss GG is seriously one of the prettiest babies I've ever seen! (and I am NOT just saying that!) And she is an ARM FULL, isn't she?
I LOVE that picture of Brian leaning against you.....it looks like if you just shifted to the left a little, he'd slump to the floor in a puddle of joyous exhaustion! His love for his family just shines, shines, shines.........
Speedy, happy, JOYFUL recovery to YOUR baby girl, I hope she knows she is the most amazing, wonderful, powerful, intuitive mama she can be.

She really is a very beautiful newborn (and I say that as a woman who didn't actually think her own newborns were terribly pretty)! Congratulations, Grandma!

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the (mostly) positive comments on your facebook page a few days ago. There is always such heated tension and controversy around birth and labor in general, so it was very nice to see everyone coming together to be so supportive and friendly to you and your daughter, son-in-law and new grandbaby. It really did warm my heart to see so many wonderful people.

Oh SNIFF!!!! I'm so excited to become a grandma in the next few years. What an honour to attend the birth of your grandchild. I only hope I will be invited into my childrens' sacred space as well. Barb, they were so blessed to have your wise, loving, compassionate, balanced, unfailing support. I'm sure it helped to make their birth really special.

Congratulations! I am sure you and your family very happy. I am happy to on the birth of your daughter. And by the way, I've had the same experience as you. A few months ago when the nurse brought my son to me for the first time, I really feel very happy. And I think the children are the most beautiful gift in my life.
