What Kind of Cereal Do You Have in Your Pantry?

Right this minute, tell all of us what cereals you have in your pantry. Feel free to share cereals you eat that aren’t in a box, too. The rule is it has to be in your house right now

I posed this question to my Facebook Navelgazing Midwife friends and these are the answers I got. (This is one of the best questions I’ve ever posed!)

JF: Kashi Granola, Flaxseed/Omega-3 Flakes, and Trader Joe's Organic High-Fiber O's.

HR: Only oats. I haven't purchased cereal in over a year!

NM: Grape Nuts and plain oatmeal

SSM: Whatever WIC allows us to buy. Right now, Krispy Rice, Life, Multigrain Cheerios and Shredded heat. (she adds) – (My husband) just alerted me to the fact that we do currently have a box of Coco Puffs courtesy of the food bank. I'm sacrificing myself and eating it so the children don't have to. A thankless job I tell ya.

KG: Fruity Pebbles

RNK: We get WIC so only 'healthy' stuff. Oatmeal, Multi Grain Cheerios, Special K, Shredded Wheat and non-WIC-approved that we have had for a couple months, Apple Looks or something. Oh and Kix.

CR: Cookie Crisps and oatmeal

EO: Corn Chex, Crispix, Strawberry Mini Wheats, Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Special K (and adds) Now that’s HONESTY, baby!

DBH: Multigrain or regular Cheerios (can’t remember), Corn Flakes and Grape Nuts

CG: Life, Honey Nut Cheerios, Crunchy Corn Bran

KM: Honey Bunches of Oats – vanilla something

MBM: Banana and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, regular Captain Crunch, Raisin Bran and regular oatmeal

SP: Special K, Protein Plus, Wheatabix, Muesli; hot cereals – oatmeal and Wheatena. (she adds) Most of the time my kids were growing up we had only oatmeal and Wheatena. No boxed cold cereal at all. I couldn't afford it.

JM: Oatmeal. If you had asked this two weeks ago, I would have added Count Chocula - I buy one box a year, and we eat it for snack at night.

MCR: Gluten-free ones and Irish oatmeal

NS: oatmeal

AK: Corn Pops, Raisin Bran Crunch, Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Frosted Mini Wheats, some gluten free stuff for hubby (crohn's disease), Special K Redberries and lots of oatmeal! We have lots of people to feed and everyone likes something different.

ALDK: Fiber One, Corn Flakes, and some generic sweetened puffed rice cereal.

LM: Trader Joe's High Fiber O's mixed with Honey Nut O's, Kashi Nuggets, homemade granola, oatmeal, whole wheat farina.

LR: Regular Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Kix, Wheaties, Puffins and oatmeal.

MN: My kitchen looks like Seinfeld's: Corn Pops, Corn Chex, Apple Jacks, Cheerios, Puffins, Shredded Spoonfuls, Malt-o-Meal (hot), whole oats, Rice Krispies, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Raisin Bran, Frosted Flakes, Cocoa Builders (she adds) I think we like cereal!

AF: Cascadian Farms Multi Grain Squares and Cascadian Farms Cinnamon Squares or something like that... and some oatmeal, but not the good kind.

KH: Oatmeal, Trader Joe's Rice Krispies, granola, gluten free stuff. Nothing HFCS or vivid colours. Ergh.

LMS: We very rarely have boxed cereal... it is a special treat here. At the moment there isn't any. Although we have several pounds of oats.

SE: Oatmeal (instant, regular, steel-cut, and Irish - I think we like oats), grits, Cheerios, Some kinda fruity-bunny stuff from Annie's that (my daughter) won't eat, and a rare box of Fruity Pebbles that I bought during PMS week.

KP: If by "cereal" you mean "all grains": I have some spelt berries, popcorn (makes great cornmeal), quick-cooking oatmeal, and the longer-cooking oatmeal (that I mostly use in recipes, frequently ground). (she adds) But you were talking breakfast cereal in boxes. My whole family loves cereal, but I don't think it particularly healthy (even the non-sugary and/or "healthy" kind), so I try not to get it on a regular basis, and don't have any in my house right now.

JG: Fruity pebbles, and 4 different types of Kashi. Of which, I eat none of the cereals. Honest. (I get sick when I eat cereal as a post op gastric bypass chicky.) She adds: I didn't count the oatmeal as a cereal - I thought you were referring to boxed cereals! Of course, we have rolled oats (make our own oatmeal with it), and instant packs of cream of wheat. C of W is the BOMB!!!

In my pantry: Oatmeal (hands down, the winner in all categories mentioned above)... steel cut always... love the Irish ones and think we might have one can of them.

- Grits, NOT instant... I'm a good Southern gal.

- All-Bran (for me... pretty gross and has HFCS, looking for an alternative)

- Some other icky bran cereal with HFCS (also for me)

- Crunchy Corn Bran - Sarah's gross cereal. She loves corn cereals.

- Frosted Flakes - a rare treat for my niece (if I got a hold of them they'd be gone in 2 hours)

- Corn Flakes (when I thought I had to do the Kidney Disease diet, I had to eat the white crap... now I'm back to eating Diabetic High Fiber. Oh, oh so yummy.) (I add) I feel naked without Cheerios! Next to oatmeal, Cheerios and their "natural" counterparts are in most pantries already reporting. Cheerios were a total staple during the kids growing up years. And Life... they loved Life.

Your turn.
